It is always nerve-racking coming into a new company and trying to break the ice. Ensuring that new employees feel comfortable is crucial to building a positive transition within a company. We thought it would be fun to ask Joseph a few questions to get to know him a little better.
Q: What is your official work title?
A: Software Engineer
Q: Can you tell us more about your professional experience/history?
A: The first job I had in this industry was as an IT Administrator roughly 3 years ago. I got the job from a family friend and the position was more or less an internship. In December of 2020, I got involved in a startup company as the Head of Engineering. The company sells access to its financial databases as a service at an affordable rate for small investors. My job was to organize a development team to take the company off the ground. Most of my prior work experience comes from this position.
Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
A: Outside of work I like to Snowboard and play Guitar. I also like trading various financial instruments like stocks, options, ETFs, and crypto. I also like playing with computer hardware to add to my small data center. One of my future goals is to maintain a proper data center.
Q: What is your greatest travel experience?
A: I recently went to the British Virgin Islands over the last few years. We went sailing around the islands for a week. I don't go on many vacations so this was definitely the biggest trip for me.
Q: Favorite movie?
A: My favorite movie has to be the Wolf of Wall Street. I find the story particularly interesting since I know a lot about the financial industry. I've also done a lot of door-to-door sales and cold calling while I was in high school and early college.
Q: Guilty pleasure music artist?
A: I play a lot of guitar in my free time. Guitarists like Guthrie Govan, Paul Gilbert, Slash, Van Halen, and Eric Johnson are big inspirations to the music I play.
Q: What is something that inspires you?
A: What inspires me are other successful Innovators. I spend a lot of time reading about what made others successful and I try to apply that to my work. In the long term, I don't want to be just a Software Engineer. I want to use my engineering skills to identify common problems for ordinary people and come up with solutions to them.
Q: What would you say your professional goal would be now that you are employed at Percipia?
A: My primary goal while working for Percipia is to accumulate professional development experience and to expand my skill sets as a software engineer. Another goal is to use the wealth I accumulate from the position for my future investment decisions.
